Received my Breville Toaster with great anticipation and was not disappointed! This is literally the 4th toaster I have purchased in the last two years had Viking, Cuisinart, Dualit and Krups and they all failed to perform. Have been looking for a toaster that will evenly toast my bread and toast bagels perfectly (crunchy on the inside, soft on the outside), look no further the Breville does this brilliantly!!!!! First test, popped in two pieces of bread for toasting and ta da it delivered evenly toasted toast. Second test, bagel toasting and ta da perfect crisply toasted bagel on the inside and soft on the outside. I love this toaster! It is beautifully designed, goes well with our modern kitchen. It has great features such as a digital that readout shows how much longer until my toast is ready, "A bit more' that allows me to toast a little more if it's not just perfect yet, and "lift" to take a peek to see how the toasting is going without canceling the toasting cycle. If you have been looking for the perfect toaster, this is it! Oh ya, and it is whisper quiet!

I have had this toaster about 3 weeks.

The one fault with the toaster is the same that I see for all toasters lately - it does not brown both sides as evenly as I'd like when I chose a lower setting. I found the fix for this was using the " a little bit more" button to finish it off . Oddly enough, toasting at level 3 and above makes the toast more even. Also, I would recommend reading the manual and using the toaster empty a few times at the max setting. This seems to wake up the elements. One side of the toaster toasts a single slice better than the other side, but all the toasters I've owned do that, even the 25 year old toaster I finally tossed did that.

Pros

Nice size, sleek
Allows for a quick peek without interrupting the cycle
Allows you toast just a bit more with the touch of a button
Lit display is a nice addition. You can see how far into the cycle your toast is at a glance. I wouldn't pay extra for that function to be added, but it's a nice extra.
Easy to clean, with a crumb tray that pulls out easily from the front.

Cons

Slightly uneven toasting
Plug portion of the cord is quite stiff for and bulky, so you can't push the toaster too close to the wall without the plug getting in the way. Not a major flaw, but a little annoying.
It's a bit expensive (but I don't regret buying the toaster b/c we use it every day).

I would NOT recommend the Cooks brand toaster that Macy's sells. It was horribly uneven, cheap construction, and I took it back within a week.

It worked beautifully for 10 days. Then the right two slots completely stopped working and I was forced to return the toaster to Breville. I am still waiting for the replacement toaster. This malfunction is shocking due to the outrageous cost of the toaster. We are a family of six and we had really been looking forward to this toaster to help "speed along" the breakfast process in our house. We are all terribly disappointed and hope that the replacement arrives soon in perfect working order.

The Breville 2 Slice Smart Toaster has an internal smart chip that lowers bread into the toasting slots with a single touch and also regulates the toasting time. On the "a bit more" setting bread is automatically lowered for additional toasting time.
