It took me a long time to get to the point where I finally arrived at the Chef's Choice 120, but I am glad that I did. I am not a professional chef, nor do I consider myself an ameture, however I do love to prepare good food and have learned the value of well sharpened knifes. After trying multiple inexpensive kitchen sharpening tools with utter disapointment in each, I decided to try an electric sharpener. Several lower priced electric models did not perform and even the Chef's Choice 130 which does not have the intermediate (fine) diamond wheel, was not exactly the right sharpener. This unit does have what is required. A course diamond wheel for shaping badly deformed cutting edges, an intermediate diamond wheel to create a smooth fine cutting edge and a soft abrasive impregnated wheel for stropping the blade to a keen edge. If used as directed this smooth running and solidly built sharpener is the perfect tool for quickly and effortlessly creating keen edges on all of my kitchen knives. Not something you can just toss in the top drawer or whip out while entertaining to dassle your guests, but amazingly compact for the features, and though it runs quietly it may be a touch loud while actually working the edge of a knife. Unlike solid abrasive wheels the diamond coated wheels are actually steel plates that tend to amplify as apposed to dampen the sound of the grinding. However the guides are well designed and prevent the knife from shifting and digging into the abrasive wheels. I am very pleased and I think I have found a tool that I will be happy with for many many years.

I purchased this knife sharpener to use on my set of Wuesthoff knifes. My knives were beyond dull and in really poor shape. I bought this hoping the three stages would be capable of sharpening even my dullest knife. I have to say it worked wonderfully! I followed the instructions exactly and it was easy to sharpen all my knives. I love that it was easy to use, sharpened my knives well, and will also be cheaper than taking my knives to be professionally sharpened!

I am not a gourmet cook, nor do I own expensive knives.
Have 2 or 3 good knives, but find that I get the best
edge with good ole' Chicago cutlery. Not a daily user
of sharp knives and don't do fancy things with'em.
My dad bought this sharpener for me after my divorce,
knowing that I had 4 mouths to feed and no idea how to sharpen with a diamond
block and leather strap..
You will not be disappointed with the 120. It's the ONE plug-in kitchen
gadget I will never be without! Don't worry about the serated edge thingy.
Unless you are a caterer, you won't really need to sharpen a bread knife.
